"In collaboration with the project MODCLIM (Modeling Clinic for Industrial Mathematics) Dr. Ciro Del Negro and prof. Giovanni Russo are arranging a guided visit of the modeling group to the INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia), followed by a cycle of seminars on "Uncertainty Quantification in Lava Flow Hazard Monitoring".

The event will take place on Friday, February 26, at the INGV Catania, Piazza Roma.

The MODCLIM project is conformed for a consortium of European universities engaged in the training of graduate students in mathematics that from 15 to 26 February, at the University of Catania, organizes a Training School with 17 PhD and master students from Europe.

The training school is locally organized by Professor Giovanni Russo of the Dep. of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Giuseppe Bilotta, from INGV, will be one of the teachers for the module on "SPH method for non-Newtonian fluids and applications”.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite the students of MODCLIM for a visit in our section and an open discussion on one of the themes of our research.

A preliminary program of the day is the following:

Visit the section:

9:30 to 10:00. Visit to the Operating Room led by Filippo Greco
10:00 to 11:00. Screening of the movie "The Perfect Eruption Etna 2002-2003" at the conference room

Seminars:

11:00 to 11:30. "Uncertainty quantification in satellite-derived products to forecast lava flow hazards" Gaetana Ganci
11:30 to 12:00. "Sensitivity lava hazard modeling: impact of model robustness and Uncertainties data input" by Giuseppe Bilotta
12:00 to 12:30. "Achieving the best accuracy in the SPH modeling of lava flows" Alexis Herault

Giovanni Russo and Ciro Del Negro"

The above text has been elaborated by Dr. Giovanni Russo and Dr. Ciro del Negro to organize the visit of the students to the Institute INGV. From the MODCLIM Organizing Committee, we would like to thank to Dr. Giovanni Russo and Dr. Ciro del Negro, as well as to all the local organizers,  for all the effort they are doing for the success of this event.
