Moreover, two students from the University of Djelfa (Algeria, which is an Associated Entity to MODCLIM Project) have applied for participation in the Intermediate Project Teams 2016, and they have been accepted and involved in the Project Teams "Extracting information from data: Principal Component Analysis, Robustness, and Outlier Detection" and "Dynamic network optimization and applications in Civil Security". 

The teams will work on their problem by communicating via internet, skype etc. The MODCLIM lecturers will provide some remote guidance and supervision of the project team.

The student team should select one among themselves to act as the team leader and contact person to communicate with the lecturer. The team should self-organize, divide sub tasks, agree who will edit the final report etc.

Closure session of the Training School 2016

The Training School 2016 has been closured on Friday, 26th February, in Catania. During the closing session, the students and lecturers have received their certificates of attendance and participation as lecturer, respectively.

MODCLIM Project next stages will be the MODCLIM Intermediate Project assignment, from March to May 2016, and the Problem Solving Workshop 2016 which will be held at the University of Koblenz Landau from 17th to 21th May, 2016.

Visit to the Catania Section of INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia)

"In collaboration with the project MODCLIM (Modeling Clinic for Industrial Mathematics) Dr. Ciro Del Negro and prof. Giovanni Russo are arranging a guided visit of the modeling group to the INGV (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia), followed by a cycle of seminars on "Uncertainty Quantification in Lava Flow Hazard Monitoring".

The event will take place on Friday, February 26, at the INGV Catania, Piazza Roma.

The MODCLIM project is conformed for a consortium of European universities engaged in the training of graduate students in mathematics that from 15 to 26 February, at the University of Catania, organizes a Training School with 17 PhD and master students from Europe.

The training school is locally organized by Professor Giovanni Russo of the Dep. of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Giuseppe Bilotta, from INGV, will be one of the teachers for the module on "SPH method for non-Newtonian fluids and applications”.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite the students of MODCLIM for a visit in our section and an open discussion on one of the themes of our research.
